HAMILTON COUNTY SEEKS INPUT FROM CITIZENS ON BUDGET ISSUES

May 29th, 2009

In preparation of the 2010 Hamilton County budget, the county is currently seeking input from residents on various budget issues through an online survey.  The survey is available now on the county website (www.hamiltoncountyohio.gov) and will remain in place through June 28, 2009.   Citizens who choose to complete the survey and provide contact information will be included in random drawings for use of the county suite at Great American Ballpark and Paul Brown Stadium.

The survey will be used to gauge citizen preferences as they relate to county services and to help identify the public’s spending priorities as they relate to allocating tax dollars to county services.  In July, the county will post the public survey results on the website and the Board of County Commissioners will consider the survey findings in developing the 2010 budget.

The public will also have an opportunity to express its views at public hearings to be scheduled in August 2009.  The revised budget process anticipates release of the Board of County Commissioner’s approved 2010 budget early this fall.

Agenda 360 event explores vibrant, inclusive neighborhoods in Cincinnati USA

May 28th, 2009

Agenda 360 invites you to participate in its first Transformational Dialogue on Friday, June 5, at University of Cincinnati Kaplan Theater.

Vibrant, inclusive neighborhoods will be the topic of the event which will be facilitated by a showing of the upcoming PBS documentary The New Neighbors: How One Town Created A Vibrant, Integrated Suburb, by award-winning filmmaker, and Clifton resident, Andrea Torrice. This film tells the moving story of how a suburban town in New Jersey successfully reversed segregation and built a vibrant, integrated community.

“This film provides a roadmap for communities in the Greater Cincinnati area to help revitalize themselves through a strategy of stable integration programs that have worked,” said Torrice, who will be present at the event.

Following the screening, participants will be invited to participate in a discussion about the region’s diverse neighborhoods and ways we can further strengthen and promote intentionally-integrated communities in our region. After the discussion, viewers are invited to take the opportunity to “walk the talk” of integration in a small way by having dinner at one of the great ethnic restaurants in the neighborhoods that surround UC.

“Community input helped form Agenda 360 priorities and being a more welcoming and inclusive region is essential.” said Myrita Craig, executive director of Agenda 360. “Creating opportunities to discuss how we can move forward together as a region will be the focus of Agenda 360 Transformational Dialogues like the event scheduled on June 5.”

Proceeds from this event help fund the Greater Cincinnati Commitment Alliance, a group of organizations promoting “The Greater Cincinnati Commitment” to be part of the change to make our region a welcoming and inclusive model for the nation and the world.

When and where: 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., June 5, University of Cincinnati’s DAAP Building, Room 5401.

Suggested donation: $10; free to UC students, faculty and staff.

New Cincinnatians for Progress aims to stop constant referendums

Business Courier of Cincinnati – by Lucy May Senior Staff Reporter

Bruce Crippen | Courier
Rob Richardson, from left, Bobby Maly and Joe Sprengard are co-chairmen of Cincinnatians for Progress. The group is working to stop the frequent ballot initiatives they say derail the city’s ability to move forward.

As far as Rob Richardson, Bobby Maly and Joe Sprengard are concerned, the streetcar ballot initiative isn’t about the city’s $200 million streetcar proposal, not at all.

The ballot language would require a majority vote of the people before Cincinnati city government could proceed with any kind of passenger rail service or planning throughout the city. And that, they argue, could stop economic progress dead in its tracks.
