CincyPAC has voted to endorse Yes on Issue 1 for this May’s ballot.
Core Value Addressed: Access to Economic Prosperity
Issue 1 is a statewide ballot measure on the May 4 primary ballot. It will renew and continue Ohio’s most successful economic development and jobs program, the Ohio Third Frontier, which already has produced more than 500 new high-tech companies and 48,000 new jobs in Ohio by investing in promising technologies, research and entrepreneurs.
The current funding mechanism for Third Frontier expires in 2012. Issue 1 will authorize $700 million in bonds to extend funding for the program for another four years, which will bring even more new companies and business expansions, and tens of thousands more jobs, to Ohio. Issue 1 will not raise taxes.
Issue 1 has attracted strong bipartisan support as well as broad-based support from business, labor, higher education, agriculture and other key sectors of Ohio’s economy.
This is an investment that will pay enormous dividends for our state.

CincyPAC is optimistic the City of Cincinnati, residents and other community supporters will press on in the pursuit of a streetcar system despite the city’s missing out on a first round of federal funding.
“Our members have told us that transportation improvements in Cincinnati are their top priority,” says Candace Klein, president of CincyPAC. “This organization will remain committed to bringing a streetcar to Cincinnati, and we hope City Hall and local business leaders maintain the momentum despite this hiccup.”
Cincinnati’s proposed streetcar project was not included in a list of 51 projects slated to receive $1.5 billion Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) funding. City leaders were hoping to receive a $60 million grant to underwrite the first phase of the streetcar plan.
“Enhanced public transportation, including a comprehensive streetcar system, is critical to CincyPAC’s other priorities, including recruiting and retaining young talent, supporting local entertainment and cultural venues, and supporting environmentally sound efforts,” says Klein.
CincyPAC is a political action committee geared toward educating city official candidates and holding them accountable to moving Cincinnati forward, ensuring the city appeals to young professionals. We are non-partisan group made up of Greater Cincinnati professionals, diverse in profession, background and political viewpoint.

CincyPAC is hailing yesterday’s announcement that the federal government will award $400 million to Ohio to revive passenger train service along Ohio’s 3C corridor, connecting Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati.
“This train will do more than connect the 3Cs and Dayton,” said Jack Shaner, Deputy Director for the Ohio Environmental Council.
“The 3C will deliver precious cargo to Ohio: Conserved fuel and cleaner air from more energy efficient transportation; more convenient, safe, and productive travel; and new commerce from stepped-up downtown development and travel and tourism opportunities. Today, 30 years of study ends and the action begins.”
According to the White House (http://bit.ly/dtgc2r) and the Federal Railroad Administration (http://bit.ly/bKRKEM):
· The $400 million in federal stimulus funds will fund track upgrades, grade crossings, new stations, maintenance facilities, and other projects along Ohio’s 250-mile 3C corridor. This project also includes planning for necessary equipment that can support future service improvements.
· The 3C is expected to offer three daily round trips at speeds up to 79 mph.
· The 3C will serve a population of more than 6.8 million people (nearly 60 percent of Ohio’s population)—one of the most populous corridors in the United States.
· Nearly 40 colleges and universities lie in close proximity to the route, as do the headquarters of 22 Fortune 500 companies.
State officials hope to have trains up and running next year along the 3C corridor.
